Getting your Property Ready for Autumn

You may not want to admit it, but summer is all but over for another year. Remember those few sunny days a couple of weeks ago? Yes, that was it, unfortunately.

So autumn is nearly upon us, and before you know it the leaves will be falling from the trees in large numbers, the winds will be blowing a little cooler and you’ll be trying to resist the urge to put the heating on too soon.

Preparing your home for the autumn months is nowhere near as drastic as doing so for winter, but homeowners still have jobs to do if they want to keep their houses well-maintained as the leaves start to fall. Without maintaining these areas, you might find yourself in need of drainage repairs or replacement gutters.

Here are just a few tips on how to make the most of the few warm days we have left before autumn starts to take its toll…

Check it Out

Keeping on top of maintenance is an all-year-round chore which should not be neglected. Take advantage of the longer daylight before the clocks go back to thoroughly check out every area of your home.

Look inside to ensure everything’s in working order (for example, are there any leaks or draughts which need fixing?), then go outside and do the same to the exterior of your home.

Fix it up

You should check your fences and outside buildings for sturdiness and holes – use binoculars to make sure the roof looks sound, with no missing or loose tiles, cover ponds (or swimming pools) with netting to ensure they don’t get contaminated with leaves, and fix any obvious issues before the cold weather descends.

One important aspect not to be missed is your drains and gutters. These should be checked regularly, to prevent blockages and leaks, but doing so before autumn is essential as they are more likely to get clogged with leaves once autumn is upon us. If left unchecked, you made need drainage repairs or replacement gutters, which is a headache no one wants.

Doing these jobs now, while the weather is still kind, will pay dividends later. To find out about drainage repairs, contact us today.
